Yes, seemed like a big hassle to do the swim out to a boat

I never did the swim out to a boat as it appeared to be a big hassle to me, plus taking my UW film camera would have been an added complication.

If the boat is launching elsewhere, I'd inquire about loading divers in at that location and riding to the dive site.

I thought this might be the original topic:
"if people are diving Pt Lobos who launched elsewhere and never touched park grounds, do they still have to pay?"

I believe the answer would have been "no"

Divers have to come through the gate both ways, and pay $8 per car.
Under normal circumstances, they can't ride the boat in. This is
so the rangers can check everybody in and out.

There is a way to organize getting the boat crew in the water,
but it's a heck of a lot of work involving faxing C-cards and
checking in and out by cell phone (and cell phone coverage is
spotty). BTW, the $8 per car is about what it would cost to park
back at the dock in Monterey.

The last club gig I ran at Pt. Lobos, we had one captain go through
this (boat too big to launch at Pt. Lobos).
