You can't predict where a Monterey dive boat is going till you get there.

Monterey conditions are highly variable, and there aren't any
islands to hide behind. The boat will go where the diving will
be the best, balancing the length of the run, recent vis reports,
sea conditions, and the experience and desires of the passengers.
All you can do is try to avoid trips that have an OW class on
board.

An advanced cert does not make an advanced diver. It only means
he's been been exposed to some of the things he needs to know to
be an intermediate diver. (I'm not knocking Rob, I'm knocking the
agencies who oversell that cert). But odds are he could handle
the Pinnicles in Carmel Bay.

Rob: how much cold water experience do you have?
