Actually, the lobster fishrmen and even F&G aren't too bright about it. They think if you are near a float, you are near a trap, but really that is not the case. The current generally pulls the float past any distance you can see the trap from. Just consider when you are diving thatwhen you see a trap, it usually comes as a total surprise. You cannot swim from trap to trap.
There is no law saying you have to stay away from traps or floats. You just don't touch them underwater.
