As a resident of Catalina and one who dives often with the black sea bass in our waters, I would be against banning spearfishing in our waters. I have not speared or taken anything since 1975, but I have no problem with those who take for food and do so legally.

I think what is necessary is stringent enforcement of existing laws with real punishments meted out to those who violate them. The recent slaps on the wrists of the yahoo's (no reflection on the web site) who speared one in a marine reserve were an ooutrage and certainly no real deterrent IMHO.
