In this case it would be legal to take them. I had the opportunity to talk recently to a friend who used to receive BSB meat back when it was legal to catch them. He said it was quite tasty. There was a commercial fishery for this species that, along with the recreational take by spearos and surface fishers, helped bring it near local extinction. I never had the chance to see a BSB in my early days (late 60's through 80's) of diving Catalina. I don't think I saw my first one until 1999. |
