there is a certain amount of 3D information in film.

The focal plane depends on the distance to the subject and the color of the light.

Even in the best lenses and systems.

The emulsion has a thickness. Thus different parts of the emulsion thickness are at focus for differnt distances to the subject.

Put a slide in a projector and sdjust the focus to see the effect.

the effect is minimized with a near planar CMOS or CCD sensor
