I have a Black Termic 7mm suit, skin-in, which is plenty tough enough for SoCal scuba. Mine has about 300 dives on it, all in Southern California waters, mostly lobster-hunting. (This is about 2 years' worth of California diving for me.) The suit uses glued seams and so, won't come unravelled on you.
When I bought the suit new, it was okay down to 52 def. F, and is still okay down to about 54 def. F. (I tend to get very cold when diving, so others may find it works well at even lower temperatures.) If you are 6'4" you need a size 58-60, semi-long. (The smaller size is definitely preferrable if you can get into it.) The key to donning the suit is the use of a mixture of about 25/75 (volume/volume) hair conditioner/water. Squirt generous amounts of the mixture into the suit and it will slip on like a glove.
Overall, this Picasso suit is the best wetsuit I have ever owned, bar none.
