This should be the rate limiting step in transmission of resolution. More rods/cones should increase sensitivity of detection, but wouldn't you be limited by the "bandwith" of the optic nerve with respect to the resolution? Another way to look at it is paralell vs serial hookup of the rods/cones to the neurons. I have no idea which it is though perhaps someone does. Ross? DonS
