Grabbing lobsters

Are people actually successful at surprise grabbing lobsters during the daytime? Everytime I see a lobster during the day, it's usually 50-75% in the hole. When I approach it, it backs into the hole and the only way I get it is if I stick my arm in there and pull it out by the base of the antenna.

Can people make fast grabs before they start backing out?
