Hello Kio,
I use the pinch your nose method (valsalva(sp)) and do it about every 4-5 feet on the way down on a freedive.. Some people can just wiggle there jaw and do it but not I.. I would stay out of the water for a few weeks with any ear problems..

A good way to clear out ear-goo I use is hydrogen-peroxide.. Lay down with your ear pointing up and pour a cap-full of peroxide into your ear.. Now, this will tickel like you have never knowen tickeling before.. worst part is it's in your head!!!! After about 10 min the fizzing stops and flip over and drain your ear.. Then repeat with the other side.. Works rather well..
