Santa Cruz is my next favorite destination for variety (though the open boats tend to go to the same sites). Anacapa also has some good spots, especially in the marine sanctuary there. I like Santa Barbara for its sea lions, the area near Sutil Island is my preferred site. I was disappointed in San Nicholas, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel. Not that I didn't like my dives, but San Clemente just sets a higher bar.
