I am rebreather certified and for a short while I thought they were the hot set up. Then I learned to be a better scuba diver and found that they offered me no practical advantages for photography. They are a pain in the tail to set up and maintain and the expense is incompatabloe with a decent photography budget. I have absolutely no desire to use one - the only exception being if I ever go back to Cocos. For most things they are totally overkill.
I also don't like the lack of End Tital CO2 monitoring on rebreathers.
