Why not just by C (5000 mAH) and D (11000 mAH IIRC) nHM batteries?

and who needs a 2500 mAH C or D, which is what putting an AA in
there would give you.

BTW, the SB104 cells are 1500 mAH (or thereabouts) NiCds. I'm
about to rebuild an SB-104 pack with 2500 mAH NiMHs.
