I was also there this weekend (I think we saw the Conception a few times on the backside of 'Cruz) and it really was great diving. At Yellow Banks, it seems we dove in the middle of a cold-water upwelling -- the temp dropped to ~50 degrees and the vis was outstanding (hard to judge exactly but it was probably the best I've ever seen in California). On the way out, we swam into a mild current; it tripled in strength on the way back and we "flew" back to the boat.
