If it is the close up attachment that fits OVER the lens (not between the lens and the camera body)set the distance to infinity and the aperature a hare past 16. You can cut the big framer so that it looks more like a macro framer (ie not a big square)and it is a little less inconvient, just secure the ends to the rod with electrical tape.

For the ones that fit between the body and the lens use minimum distance and f22.

I hope you can come on another trip soon. I know it is a loooonnngggg drive for you. If you ever need an airport pick up that isn't too far away let us know.
