I think your dad should by a gift-card to a dive shop and give that for the diver. An expensive and a high-end mask can be worth nothing if it leaks. Everybodys face is unique and the mask should be tested before buying by placing it on the face and gently sucking air in through the nose. Obviously your dad cannot do this on behalf of the diver.
