I have seen "good" people turn "bad" when profit was at stake. It is amazing what the lure of money can do to people's judgment. Think of all the business owners, the workers whose income is largely tip-based, etc., who fail to report income received in the form of cash. Here in this tourist economy I know of so many who do this, and often openly state it. Yet some of them would be the first to demand punishment for a low income worker who took food from a restaurant they worked at to feed their family. While profit in and of itself is not a bad thing (heck, I hope to eventually turn a profit... or is it prophet?), and there are many "good" business people, it can serve as a serious temptation to turn otherwise good people "bad." |
