The last time I was last there 2 yrs ago last month, we were seeing
larger fish. Specifically, we were seeing things like eagle rays
and the barraccuda Chuck mentioned in his report. Where we saw the
rays was at the Maricaibo sites off the extreme S end of the
island. In years past we would see one or two at a time on trips
down that way. But on that last trip, we saw dozens at a time and
different times of the dive. I do remember seeing a small school of
something jack-like off in the distance off Santa Rosa Wall, but
other than they were big with a "tuna" shape, I couldn't tell if
they were horse eyes or not. The vis on that particular trip was
not as stellar as usual, perhaps only 80-100 ft. This past year I
was planning on going back in March. But since the storm, I have
reconsidered. The people we stay with are still trying to rebuild
their casita and salvage their boat from the caleta.
