Good point! After all it was Homo sapiens that brought the goats and pigs to the island, and introduced canine distemper to the fox population. Getting rid of them (gulp, including me) early on would have eliminated the ecological problems they caused to the island's natural ecosystems!

Seriously, the Nature Conservancy actually proposed getting rid of the human population in Avalon as a means of reducing environmental impacts on the island. It was another reason why I (along with others) wrote the Wrigley family and suggested they form their own conservation organization independently.
