Maybe this has been debated to death, but,...Not withstanding the experience of this incredible encounter, this type of encounter will inevitably and ironically lead to the destruction of these animals. This was a commercial operation set up for 'shark encounters'. The operator uses chum and basically calls the sharks to the divers, thereby habituating the animals to humans. The animals equate boats, divers and easy food. Can you imagine for a moment if some wildlife concession did the same thing with bears in our mountains? Chance encounters with GW and sharks in general are an awesome experience. Chumed shark encounters are dangerous for the sharks and the unsuspecting divers.
