Kyle, is that to say you didn't see much marine life there? I've done a fair amount of snorkeling on several trips to Cozumel (took a snorkel boat out in the Chankanaab reef area once) and Akumal. To be honest, marine life has always been pretty spotty -- Cozumel can be better, but more at scuba than snorkeling depths, and plus I imagine it's still recovering from the hurricane hit this year. If you go back, try snorkeling in the cenotes (caverns leading into the system of underground rivers) along the mainland coast -- this is cool to do.
