Say the reason the diver does this (other than training) is because he/she has a bad back or is not so physically fit and does not want to "haul out" with it on. Would that person also be able to hold the weight belt without dropping it? Some of those weights belts are pretty stuffed full!!! And yes, the Naui/LA Cty diver would reap the benefits of any dropped gear!
