Keep in mind that the San Pedro Channel is a dispersal barrier for many marine invertebrates and even nearshore reef fish species. That does tend to reduce diversity out here. Of course the party boats with up to 100 anglers each also decimate many of our local reefs. Due to the steep offshore topography, our fish (as well as kelp, inverts, etc.) tend to be in a more restricted horizontal zone from shoreline.

Hen Rock has pretty well been picked clean of most bugs based on what I've been seeing there.
