A few weekends ago I took the fast boat to Avalon to test some equipment tweaks at the dive park. I only took one camera lens/port combo so that I could fit everything in one bag aboard the boat, and concentrated mainly on the equipment issues, so I only took a handful of photos. I had almost forgotten about the photos until I went to clean files off the camera’s micro-drive. These photos should evoke some pleasant memories for those who are familiar with the excellent diving at Avalon.

Abundant animal life at sunken swim platform near northwest corner of Avalon dive park. Fish species include calico bass, sheephead, garibaldi, opaleye perch.

Un-identified diver exploring kelp forest, very gung-ho to be out in 13 degC (56 degF) water, mid-winter, in wet suit. But the beautiful conditions more than compensated for the chilly water.

Wreck of Sue-Jac at 27m (90ft) depth in northeast corner of Avalon dive park.
