Dry suit and losing fins - how can I prevent this? |
Posted by msblucow on February 13, 2006 at 10:38:58: I had a lovely task-loading moment yesterday on the oil rig Elly. I was busy snapping pictures of a scorpionfish when I felt the fin on my left foot pull off. I turned around and dove for it just before it disappeared into the abyss. Aack! After a bit of effort, I was able to cradle the fin in my arm and at the same time clip my camera rig to a D-ring - all the while knocking the hell out of the rig fauna and providing quite a show for the sheephead that had gathered. Finally I was able to get the fin back on and continue with the rest of the dive. So here's my question - how can I prevent this from happening in the future? I'm diving a Diving Concepts suit and using Atomic Split fins with the new modified spring straps that Reef Seekers sells. When I put the fins on at the start of the dive, the spring straps appear to fit snuggly against my ankles. Usually the fins are very hard to get off my feet at the end of a dive since moving air inside the suit seems to wedge them in tighter. Should I get shorter straps? Gators? Inquiring minds want to know.
