Going on a shop charter with an open water class will guarantee easy spots. Almost all shop charters to the front side of Catalina have open water classes. Look at the Great Escape, the Magician, the Pacific Star, or the Sun Diver. All are good boats.
You will need to book the trip through the shop that charters the boat. You can ask them when you call if they will have open water classes on board.
