I know domestic US airlines 'stink' at baggage allowances. I had a case at 47 pounds to Miami (which was lost for a day thanks to the ineptitude of TSA) and on the return hit 52 thanks to a still damp DiveRite transpack - got a lecture and warning from the American Airlines baggage witch. One more reason to go to a plastic backpack!
