I've been waiting for this one. I went to the premiere of the Howard's 3D California film several years ago and thought it was great.
The present technology for IMAX has moved backwards to the older cross polarized system. The original California film I saw used the shutter glasses, but these are more expensive.
I have always liked 3d-photography and have a small web site for some of my 3d photos at 3d-photography.com.
