Les Staats, 50, was a first grade teacher at McKinley Elementary School for the past 20 years. Dr. Ida Randall, the principal of the school, said Staats was a free spirit who was loved by staff and students alike. A special memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church will be held on Tuesday in Bakersfield. The accident is under investigation and authorities have not yet released details of the cause of death.
