As much as I love my film cameras, I'd recommend starting with
digital. The quick turnaround will let you learn much faster.
More folks buying digital UW cameras seem to be sticking with it
than in the film days, and that's because the film learning curve
is long enough that lots of folks got frustrated.

If you are going to be really serious about it, get a digital SLR.
Much more money, but much better results. If you just want some
nice memory shots, go with a lesser digital camera.
