You gave me an idea. I certainly don’t’ think shops would just stop having these contests as it is “marketing”- they get valuable publicity from it. However, maybe I can convince them it is in their best interest to require that the bugs be brought in live (in sea water in an ice chest with a bubbler – a battery powered one can be had for $10.00) and then the shop could keep/display them for a day in a big tank and then make a big deal about releasing them as was done recently in San Diego and thereby get more publicity in newspapers etc. Fortunately, I have contacts to Bill & Bob Meistrell at Dive and Surf – who knows...maybe they will FEEL GOOD about it.
