From the School of Hard Knocks textbook:

"The role of the Divemaster is to be the one to blame and to sue (along with the boat, the shop, and the gear manufacturer) when the diver who told the DM to shove it screws up and get as into trouble. The same wasn't-my-fault attitude carrries over to his/her heirs who will feel we should have saved him/her from him/herself."
