MS streets and trips says it's 134 miles round trip to Half Moon
Bay. I get about 15 MPG towing the boat, so that's nine gallons.
Plus about 25 gallons round trip to the Farallones, for a total
of 34 gallons.

MS S&T says its 424 miles round trip to Pt. Arena. 28 gallons,
plus five or six gallons in the boat. So the gas consumption is
the same. But the Farallones is a day trip. Pt. Arena requires
overnight accomodations, with boat parking. And you can get up
there and get blown out. It happened to Kawika a couple of weeks
ago on what should have been a good weekend (We ALMOST went to
the Farallones -- it was just over maximums (and I got a cold)).

And Monterey is 100 miles round trip, plus what I burn in the
boat, which can be anything from three to 12 gallons, and a day
trip.

QED.
