Both crew and divemasters dive around the divers schedule. No DM, Crew or Diver will tel you the exact location of their "honey-hole" or it will be wiped out in a few weeks. I can give you some tips though:
1. The honey-hole is not right under the boat.
2. Be patient; is takes us years to find a great hole.
3. You see lots of bugs but can't catch them: Your to slow.
4. Dive more: Boat DM's may be diving 150-200+ dives at Catalina a year.
5. Keep a logbook; We track bugs all year long. (Start Now)
6. Dive at night; Catching bugs is easier.
7. Get more training; Boat DM's are certified divemsters or instructors. We can't send a open water diver that is certified to 60', to a honey-hole at 65'. You have probably noticed the crew an DM's surfacing at the boat stairs, take a navigation class.
8. Be lucky.

Dive with in your limits and beware fo bug fever.
By the way the conditions were Magnificent.
