I have had the same harassment when diving with some groups and spearing fish. I agree with Mel (LAbugman) and you should dive with groups that are friendly to hunting.
I know the following groups are friendly to responsible spearfishing.

The Sea Divers is an eclectic group of advanced divers that includes hunters, photographers, and sightseers.

The Sea Sons a club of many old time hunters, who always welcome advanced divers, including photographers.

The Douglas Dive Club is club that hunts.

Ocean Safari is a dive shop that charters many boats and is hunting friendly.

The advanced Thursday trips on the Peace open boats usually have hunters on the trip.
