I just got a scanner myself and I'm experiencing the same issues. When I scan slides the image comes out with a disturbing purple haze especially in the shadow areas. I have to do a lot of color manipulation and contrast work to get them to look presentable. The problem I have with that is not only the time involved but also the fact that the image is no longer a true image but a manipulation and not that it looks bad but it is no longer resembles the original. This problem with the purple haze seems to be worse when I set the machine on high quality scan settings.
I just want a machine that will scan the damn slide so I don't have to mess with it.
