The "Default Monitor" indicates that the proper drivers are NOT installed. This is most often the cause of bad color calibration and color shift in pics.
Sometimes this happens as a result of the Monitor not initializing, and then it just sticks.
You can find the correct drivers either on the CD/Floppy that came with your monitor, or download them from the manufacturer.
This may not completely fix your problem, but it very often does, and if not, it's a step in the right direction.
Also, after the right drivers are installed, make sure the color profile is also for the proper monitor.
