It's polished out alumuinum and actually when I do these they tend to hold up better than any paint job because there is no place really for corrosion to start. When you polish aluminum it seems to close off all the pores so salt can't get in anywhere. I just rinse the tank off after and hit it with a little aluminum wheel polish by hand it stays looking great. Now chlorine in a pool is a different story. Chlorine trashes the shine and I have a hell of a time getting it back.
