We were there a few weeks ago and also saw two to three of these sharks 5 to 6 feet long. I agree they were not six gill, seven gill, blue, leopard, soupfin, etc. and looked most like Bonito (Shortfin Mako) sharks, but I am not sure. I also do not think they were Whites, but don't know for sure. I think the tail of the White is a bit different from the ones we saw.

It did look a bit like a Black Tip, as far as body and tail shape - however no color on the fin tips. (And I don't think Black Tips are around Catalina anyway)
