Would like to get a positive ID on what we saw (sounds like a good reason to go there for a dive!) My guess are makos, though I'm still looking for a picture of a white's pup.

The caudal on a black tip has a longer upper extension and of course the color is all wrong. My wildest encounter with this shark was off West Cay last summer. I snorkled from our boat to a little island, explored and decided to go back across a shallow reef to avoid numerous urchins about 3 feet deep or so. I was startled by a ray and thought - "that spine would really hurt in the chest!" when I glanced over at a 6 foot black tip cruising by about 10 feet away. Have you ever snorkled while looking backward the entire way? About the worst I encountered on the swim was a little remora which persistently tried to latch onto me - hate those creatures!

happy diving - we're lucky to have seen these!
