Over the past 4 months or so, I've been spending a lot more time over sandy bottoms here on Catalina and have been pleasantly surprised at the wealth of "new" species I've been able to film. As a kelp forest ecologist, I used to spend all my time over rocky reefs except when filming the black sea bass at Italian Gardens.

Just did a few dives over the sand/silt bottom at La Jolla Shores and was very pleased to film thirteen species I had no footage of.
