Anyone seen living Apolemia with swimming bells? |
Posted by Dr. Bill Bushing on May 22, 2006 at 11:51:59: After 37 years of diving Catalina off-and-on, I finally observed my first living Apolemia with a swimming bell still attached. I occasionally see the detached strings of polyps, which I've called the "frayed rope siphonophore" but this is the first time I've seen one with the bell. Curious as to whether others have??? Here are the images of the one with the swimming bell: http://www.starthrower.org/images/external%20links/Apolemia%20collage%2006-05-21as.jpg |
