David;

Just a point of clarification on quick releases and use of plastic load bearing parts. The issue with the the quick releases isn't how long they can take the strain. If they're intact they shouldn't fail. The real issue is whether the quick release has been damaged. It's easy to crack a plastic quick release by setting heavy stuff on them-like a set of doubles. Once craked, they can go at any time. If you stand up and the double 104's come down on the back of your ankle it's game over. The cracks are often really hard, if not impossible, to see. While the current TransPac may not have plastic QR's, I believe the old ones did. Lot's of BP harnesses had, and have, these failure points in them, as well.
