Yeah, they do suck gas, but with the right configuration, it's a good choice, especially if your 30 miles offshore, or up the coast, bucking into a heavy sea. That NOAA boat looks like a big mistake to me-haven't taken a close look at it, but for that kind of money, I think I could come up with something better, maybe one of the aluminum hulls they're building up in Bellingham.
