I have always had bad luck with LA area hotels. I remember a conference I attended a few years ago at the Double Tree hotel in LA. I was there for three day and all three days I had plumbers in trying to fix the toilet. They were booked solid and didn't have another room.

Odds are you could have a good night at the Coast hotel. Driving into the Coast hotel is tricky. There are other options for hotels. I usally check out this site for hotels. Although I usally stay with friends when I visit Long Beach. Oh I miss the days of the Pike Amusement Park ;-)
