Seriously man, I can't imagine how you got in a bind. I've driven through some of the worst parts of LA for work and have never felt in danger. Well, I get scared every time I drive through Little Saigon in OC, but that's because those people can't drive worth a damn! Almost got hit twice there in a 5 min period one day!

All you have to do is stay on the water side of the 405 and you'll be just fine.
