that plastic backpack you got will last longer than you think.
I'm currently working on an aluminum version that will be shaped closer to the plastic pack and it will be made out of 1/4 inch.
I also am thinking of making one out of carbon fiber where I will lay down in some sand to make a mold then form the plate exactly to the shape of my back. But this would be just for me, it would cost way too much for anybody to have one made.

I think this new minimalist old school backpack single tank configuration is the future of diving.
