I appreciate everyone's input. I am going to wait to service the strobes until I see a definite effect on the battery life, which it appears may be soon. I am going to let my housing communicate its need for service by sticky buttons. I'll probably send it in rather than do it myself, however. I, too, have only a 5050 at risk. I do have insurance, though.
