July marks the start of the next annual Los Angeles County Advanced Diving Program class. It consists of over 100 hours of training and at least 14 dives at sites representative of those you'll find in SoCal. Plus its a lot of fun - weekly pot lucks, a campout at Castaic Lake, and a great group of instructors and fellow ADP'ers.

Its for divers who want to become better divers. I had over 300 dives and advanced certifications when I took it and I learned much more about dive physics, conditioning, beach diving and rescue. A goal I set for myself at the start of the program was to drop lead and I mastered techiniques that allowed me to go from 26 lbs. to 12. But I also got a lot more out of it - better air consumption, improved navigation, new beach skills and much more.

Its not a course or class, but a 'program'. Your fellow ADP'ers will be divers with experience levels ranging from a dozen dives to those with hundreds (and in at least one case thousands) of dives.
