Do you mean the Lewis' Moon Snail (Polinices lewisii)? If so, I saw a very large one (mantle was larger than 12") on a night dive at Redondo Vet's Park on May 31st this year in about 75 ft of water a few yards south of the steps. I just read up on them and now finally realize that all of those toilet plunger-like thingies all over Redondo are their "sand collar" egg casings! Funny - I just thought it was part of the "trash" down there :-).
